                 Tasmai Shri Gurave Namaha            (2)

Meaning: Guru resembles the Trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Brahma is the Generator. Vishnu is the Operator. Shiva is the Destructor. Guru is Vishnu. Lord Vishnu sustains normal human life. Guru is Vishnu. Lord Vishnu maintains the creation. Similarly guru helps in keeping knowledge. Guru can be like Shiva. Guru destroys the ignorance from the mind of the students.

The second stanza of the shloka goes on to explain that I was born in the darkest ignorance and my spiritual master opened my eyes with the torch of knowledge. I offer my respectful obeisance to him.
