Meaning: Guru resembles the Trinity
Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Brahma is the Generator. Vishnu is the Operator.
Shiva is the Destructor. Guru is Vishnu. Lord Vishnu sustains normal human
life. Guru is Vishnu. Lord Vishnu maintains the creation. Similarly guru helps
in keeping knowledge. Guru can be like Shiva. Guru destroys the ignorance from
the mind of the students.
The second stanza of the shloka goes
on to explain that I was born in the darkest ignorance and my spiritual master
opened my eyes with the torch of knowledge. I offer my respectful obeisance to
him.
